Sustained Growth Leadership Development Framework - Element One
Mission - Vision - Core Values
As is noted on the home page, this wiki is designed around the Sustained Growth Leadership Development Model.
This page is specific to the first essential element of the model - Mission-Vision-Core Values.

The mission, vision and core values of an organization are what should guide decision making, determine how resources are allocated, and measure day to day behaviors in terms of accountability for success. These elements are at the core of every successful organization. They are frequently hanging on the walls of some well intended but misguided organizations. In many cases, outdated and all but forgotten remnants of mission statements or core values can be found tucked away in a file cabinet. Why are these essential organizational elements, espoused by experts to have such significant value, so frequently ignored?

The figure below contains essential questions leaders must ask to assess the health of their Mission, Vision and Core Values.

The remainder of this page contains resources to support your efforts toward development, maintenance and sustainability of these key elements comprising the “heart” of your learning organization.

Mission - Vision - Core Values
  • Do you have them?
  • If so - how did they come to be?
  • If not - how will you create them?
    • Do you have the individual and collective leadership capacity to take on a project of this scope and importance?
  • How are they used -
    • Do they guide decision making?
    • Do they align with your human, fiscal and material resource utilization?
    • Do they align with the day to day behaviors of all members of the organization?
  • Are they regularly reviewed/monitored - if so - by whom?
  • Can they be changed - if so - how?
